2019 in Review

Some of you who read this blog may have noticed that I had a review of 2017, and now I'm posting a review of 2019, but I never did one for 2018. I was probably busy at the time, but there's another thing: without getting into too many specifics, 2018 was a very tough year. I did initiate a few things in 2018, and I started to enjoy the fruits of that labor throughout 2019.
  1. I doubled my client base for a side business: Become An InstaGrandma
  2. I gave up a job in Switzerland
  3. I received a paycheck for my children's books
  4. I expanded on the actor-related services I provide
  5. I hosted a 10-Year Anniversary Screening
  6. I've gotten into a few festivals this year (sometimes for my films, sometimes with other people)
  7. I randomly taught French at one point (Je suis un débutant).
During these last weeks of December, I spent a little time working on my Annual Blueprint for 2020 (thank you, Ben Whitehair), as well as my Decade In Review (thank you, Marie Forleo). I've always been the type of person who does a lot of things, but having these plans always helps me focus my energy into doing what is productive and staying away from the things that aren't as important to me.

Thanks so much for reading these updates (click here to subscribe to my newsletter for updates and giveaways), and I hope 2020 gives us everything we could ask for.

My short film, Fred, was just accepted into the Cambria Film Festival! This is the first project I've submitted to festivals, and it's always validating to see someone appreciate something I put together.

Meet For Coffee

I shot "Meet For Coffee" while I was working on another project back in June. It's based off a true story, but the story of putting this short together was also interesting.

This video was so short that I didn't want to have a whole separate shoot day just to put it together, so I planned to shoot it in the afternoon after I had completed Orthorexia. I got a call that morning that the actress whom I had cast was no longer able to make it, so I ended up asking Santeon if she wanted to be in two shorts that day.

Orthorexia is still in post production, and hope to have a viewable version up in the next few months!

10 Year Anniversary Screening!

It's true what they say: The days are long, but the years are short. In honor of my 10 years of creating original content, I had a screening of my work. I rented a theater, invited some friends, made party favors, and I made sure to get a photo with all of the night's award winners.

We're Going to Comic Con!

The Deck is going to be featured in San Diego's Comic Con this year! I always enjoy seeing something I'm a part of go from its first inception to a fully-formed creation, and getting into something this prestigious is the icing on that cake. If you happen to be going to Comic Con this year, make sure to check it out! Hopefully, we'll be able to show the final product once it's made its way through the festival circuit.

Orthorexia

I just finished shooting another short film, and as the kids say, "it was lit!" First, because Chris was our Director of Photography, so he brought a bunch of lighting equipment. Second, because of the awkward size and angles of everything, Chris and I accidentally turned on the stove at least three times.

Hopefully, this video will be edited by the end of July, and I can start submitting it to festivals!

Bookkeeping For My Books

I just received a check in the mail for some of the children's books I've published! I honestly was not expecting this to happen for quite some time, and it totally justifies the work I've been putting into the latest book. I don't want to give away too many details, but the book I'm currently working on is another installment of the Slipping Beauty series, featuring some of your favorite characters from the previous two books.

Earlier this month, I got to work with Anna Sahlstrom on her passion project: The GoGirls!  The script features female, crime fighting superheroes, and this scene will be used as a trailer.  Hopefully, I'll have an edit that I'll be able to post publicly soon.
